PE
At Holy Trinity, we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve.
We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish, using a range of different physical activities which are essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development.
Curriculum Intent
PE is taught across the school by Miss Jamie, who has been teaching PE in schools for many years. As well as following the National Curriculum for PE, Miss Jamie also organises and attends sports tournaments with the children and organises annual sports days for KS1 and KS2.
External Resources
Lewisham School Games
At Holy Trinity we participate in numerous competitions. We are part of our local Schools Games initiative where we enter many competitions for a variety of sports including Football, Basketball, Quad Qthletics, SEN Boccia, Sports Hall Athletics, Tag Rugby, Gymnastics and Primary Panathlon.
The School Games, which is funded by Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, involves funded School Games Organisers (SGOs) at a local level and School Games County Alliances at a county level working alongside us to create an annual calendar of competition.
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.
We were awarded the Gold School Games Mark in 2023-2024.
Millwall Community Scheme
Millwall Community Trust runs a variety of sessions for schools, and work with a number of partner schools across Southwark, Lewisham, and Kent.
Millwall are ruuning our football club on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as a lunchtime club on a Thursday.
Nillwall Community Scheme also run a programme with our Keystage to classes called The Joy of Moving.
The Joy of Moving programme is designed to help children develop their physical, cognitive and social skills in a fun and educational way.
The Joy of moving programme is delivered within schools and consists of two elements; the Move & Learn project and Joy of moving Festivals.
Move & Learn is targeted at children aged 9 and 10 – a key milestone in a child’s development – and is designed to appeal to every child through a fun and engaging approach. Consisting of 9 hours of education over six weeks, plus a series of home-based family challenges, children learn about the importance of physical activity and how to eat a balanced diet and lead an active lifestyle. We also work hard to support and encourage schools to adopt the ideas and approach in the longer term.
